Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pacific Indigenous Psychology?

Pacific Indigenous Psychology is a branch of psychology that incorporates traditional Pacific Island practices and beliefs into modern therapeutic approaches.

Drawing on lived expereinces, cultural knowledge, indigenious practices and pacific values we weave together clinical best practice, and empircially validated methods, creating unique and empowering solutions.

Is culture relevant in clinical practices

Culture is the social enviroment we live in,

Culture is the worldview, beliefs and cognitions that we hold,

Culture is the practices and behaviours that we engage in.

To effectively empower people and transform lives, we must recognise, validate and celebrate our clients cultural context, cultural history, and cultural identity

A plethora of research clearly identifies better client outcomes, improved wellbeing, and improved social cohesion when cultural perspectives are valued.  Studies show strong cultural identities have been associated with improved mental health outcomes

As clinicans we hold our own cultural values, that at times, maybe misaligned to the needs of our clients, families and communities, recognising our own positions allows us to connect better with others.

What can I expect from Ngoio Psychology?
